Cytomegalovirus (CMV)

Record number:
418
Adverse Occurrence type:
MPHO Type:
Alerting signals, symptoms, evidence of occurrence:
Initial symptoms include blurred vision, elevated intraocular pressure, foreign body sensation, photophobia, and decreased visual acuity. Typical findings of CMV corneal infection includes linear keratic precipitates associated with multiple coin-shaped lesions and localized corneal stromal edema. Epithelial cells in scrapings exhibit intranuclear and cytoplasmic inclusions compatible with CMV infection.
Demonstration of imputability or root cause:
Known seronegative (IgG anti-CMV) recipient without history of blood transfusion or febrile illness seroconverts following corneal transplant from known seropositive donor. IgM anti-CMV result in recipient would further confirm the diagnosis.
